Study, study, study, stuuuudyyy.......stuuuuuuudddyy!

This weekend and week is all about preparing yourself to succeed on your midterm exams! It is absolutely essential that you prepare yourself for this midterm!

Study, study, study!
  • Use Khan Academy and the assigned topics!
  • Look over your notes!
  • Read through the outline of topics provided yesterday; identify your strengths/weakness, and then use Khan (or your notes) to review the topics you identify as areas of improvement!
  • Look over your old tests--these summarize the main ideas from each unit!
  • Look over your winter break take home test!
  • Use your PDF textbook (link on the right) to review different topics and to see worked examples!
  • And finally, organize and look over all of your "midterm review" stamps!
    • These all represent questions on the exam--so look over these and be sure you know how to do them all (on your own)!
    • Maybe even re-try them on separate paper and pretend you're taking a test!

And remember: Stamps are due by the day of your exam!
  • Count up your stamps...twice (double check)
  • Fasten them together/put them in an envelope/bag/something...
  • Write your name and the total on the front
  • Double check!
  • I will randomly select 5 or 6 students per class and double check your count...if it's off you get a 0!

I'll see you all on Tuesday! Feel free to email/Remind me any time with questions! I'm looking forward to you all making me proud on our exam next week! See you there!

Tuesday/Wednesday HW!

There is no homework for tonight--so it's a great time to get some studying done!

Here are some things you can do tonight:

  • Work on Khan Academy to review!
    • Any time you put in tonight will be counted toward the assignment due Monday! In other words, here's some extra time!
    • Remember, for each extra 15 minutes (over 45) you spend working on Khan you can get extra credit!
  • Remember, stamps are due on the day of your exam!
    • But....you can turn them in early!
    • If I were you I would count up all my stamps, record the total on the front, and turn them in on Thursday--then you're done with them!
    • Remember to double check your counting, as I will randomly sample 5 students from each class to double check!
    • If you're total is wrong you get a 0!
  • Study, study, study for that midterm!
Tomorrow's Sub Work:
  • Tomorrow in class you will have two assignments that will be collected and graded
    • First, you will have a bunch of "evaluating exponents and logs" practice to do! Use your notes and work together!
    • You will also have 3 midterm review questions to do--some multiplying matrices, solve a system with back substitution, and more long division!
    • Then you will be given some homework...
      • Tomorrow night's homework (labeled as a stamp problem with the wrong date) deals with analyzing the graph of a function and a little limit stuff!

Weekend HW!

This weekend log  time in Khan Academy reviewing for your midterm exam!
  • You must log at least 45 minutes in Khan Academy by the end of the upcoming weekend--since there's no other homework tonight, get a head start on this Khan stuff!
  • I have assigned you a variety of topics/skills to work on that are related to the content on your midterm exam! You can work on any of these, or you can look up other topics--your grade will be based on your time (min 45 min)!
  • I may increase this time amount since we've (now) had this as our homework for two nights--so get some work done tonight!
  • This will count as multiple homework grades!

Be sure to get this done! See you all for the final 4 classes before the midterm on Tuesday!

Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

Thursday HW!

Tonight please complete the two application problems (based on exponential functions) provided in class (or below)!

This homework is pretty short--so it's a good night to get more Khan Academy stuff done! Don't forget--you'll need to log at least 45 minutes by midnight on Monday!

Also, remember that we will start class tomorrow with a quick "exponential functions" quiz! The quiz will be directly based on last night's homework!

  • Use Khan Academy to review fractional and negative exponents--then you're studying AND getting some Khan time logged!

Here are the exponential application problems for tonight's homework!

For each question you'll simply need to do some substitution for t! Use a calculator! And remember that the "initial amount" occurs when the time, t = 0!

Wednesday HW!

Tonight please complete the "Evaluating and Sketching Exponential Functions" worksheet provided in class (or below)!

We may have a pop quiz on exponential functions in the coming days--if we do, it will be based on this homework!

Tomorrow in class it's on to logarithms--see you there!

Also, don't forget about your Khan Academy stuff! You need to log at least 45 minutes by next Monday (MLK day)!

  • This will count as multiple homework grades!

Tomorrow we'll do some final practice with exponential functions; then, on Thursday, we'll move onto logs--see you there!

Weekend HW!

This weekend please complete the "Big Technique Exercise" packet that we started in class! This will be collected and graded on Monday as a quiz grade!

  • You MUST SHOW WORK to receive credit! No work, no credit!
  • Each question is worth 2 points
  • Your goal is to earn at least 20 points!
    • If you do all 14 questions you could still get 4 incorrect and earn 20 points! So do them all!
    • You could also potentially boost your quiz grade by earning over 100%!
  • You must answer at least 10 questions using the strategies we learned in class (or you can answer them all with the strategies)
    • If you're struggling to apply the "strategy" (backsolve or plug-in) you can answer 4 questions using any approach
    • These are all possible (answerable) without any strategy
Have an amazing weekend! On Monday we'll start our last mini-unit--exponential and logarithmic functions! If you'd like to get a head start take a look at chapter 3 in your PDF textbook! Or, review the logs of exponents!

I have also assigned some Khan Academy topics that you can use to...

  • Get a head start and practice with exponential and logarithmic functions!
  • Review for the midterm exam!
  • You will have to log at least 40 minutes working on these assigned topics in Khan by the end of next weekend (due Tuesday, 1/17)--get a head start now!

Wednesday, January 4, 2017

Wednesday HW!

Tonight please complete the following in your "Plug In" packet provided in class!

15 (about hours and days), 8 (about consecutive integers p,q,r,s), 14 (about a,b,c), 17 (about a number p), 23 (about the sum of 3 consecutive integers), and 24 (about s and t)

Tomorrow in class we'll do a classwork assignment--lots of practice with these strategies! See you there!

Then, on Monday of next week, we'll start our last "new stuff" before the midterm--exponential and logarithmic functions!

Have an awesome day!

Back to the Grind!

Did you have an amazing day back? I hope so!

Today in class we looked at the "backsolve" strategy for math multiple choice questions--tomorrow we'll start to look at "plug-in," and then on Thursday we'll do some practice! See you there!

Tonight, please complete the following problems in your "Backsolve" packet provided today in class (or below).

8, 14, 15, 20, 26
