REMEMBER THE TEST IS TOMORROW BECAUSE WE DID NOT HAVE IT TODAY!!
(Reference Angles will not be on the quiz, it will be used more moving forward) there are a lot of overlapping skills though, such as sketching angles.
Tonight for homework I want you to finish the entire Homework Assignment: “Reference Angles”
A tip to finding reference angles with more than one rotation is to draw it:
1.       Sketch the angle
2.       Label the reference angle
3.       Determine the measure of the angle that intersects the terminal side and the horizontal axis.

QUIZ PREP (also HW)

As I said today there will most likely be a snow day, but do not plan for it. Be ready to take the quiz tomorrow but if the snow does come just remember to brush up a bit during the snow day or before school so you can get your brain back into math.

The HW is just to finish the packet. I'll be attaching a key at the bottom so check your answers and make sure they're right.

The quiz will contain:

  • Sketching angles given in radian measure
  • conversion from degrees to radians
  • conversion from radians to degrees
  • finding complementary/supplementary angles in radian measure
  • finding coterminal angles in radian measure
Some common troubles
  • CONVERT FROM DEGREES TO RADIANS: I will only give numbers in degrees that are multiples of the special angles. If you can't figure it out off the top of your head check your calculator. Attempt to divide the degree measure by 30, 45, 60, or 90.
    • Also feel free to cross multiply. Set up a proportion of your angle over the whole circle equal to the x/2pi
  • CONVERT FROM RADIANS TO DEGREES: Use the special angles (pi/3, pi/4, pi/6) to quickly convert.
  • The TABLE: The table is meant to organize your fractions, just remember that the whole circle is 2pi (or 360), half the circle is pi (or 180), use fractions of these numbers to convert to degrees or vice versa. Try and do the table a couple of more times using different methods to find each number.
  • The special angles being drawn in the coordinate plane. If I am drawing pi/3 then I cut the top and bottom PI into thirds. I then shade the first line because only the first chunk is covered by the rotation of pi/3. As you can see I labeled the pieces that I cut pi into.
                                                pi/3
                                              pi/4
                                          pi/6

Tuesday HW!

Homework for tonight is out of the book. I'm feeling nice today so I will list out the problems but from now on I will just be posting the book problems. If you don't have a book come talk to me tomorrow at the beginning of class and we'll sort it out.

pg 255 # 5, 6, 9, 10, 13, 15, 18, 19, 53, 61

State the quadrant
5) (a) π/5      (b) 7π/5
6) (a) -π/12     (b) -11π/9

Sketch the angle
9) (a) 3π/4    (b) 4π/3
10) (a) -7π/4     (b) -5π/2

Find one positive and one negative coterminal
13) (a) π/6     (b) -5π/2
15) (a) -7π/4   (b) -11π/6

find the complement/supplement (IF POSSIBLE)

Monday HW!

Hey everyone, tonight's homework is just going to be on sketching some angles in radians.

  1.  -5π/6
  2. -5π/4
  3.  5π/3
  4.  4π/9
  5. -π/2
  6. 9π/4
  7. 17π/6
  8. 5π/4
  9. -7π/3
If you're having trouble try and chop the circle into fractions like we did in class.

You can use the diagrams we drew in class for reference (I've included them below).

π/4                                                                                                   π/3                                                               π/6
