Weekend HW....

Just kidding...no homework this weekend!

You have all been doing such a great job with this trig stuff...keep it up! On Monday we'll bring back radians some more, and next week we'll start to combine what we know about SOHCAHTOA, angle measures, and special triangles to develop the unit circle....it's going to be AWESOME.

Until then, enjoy your weekend! Go outside and play! See you all next week!

Quiz Tomorrow!

Tonight, study for tomorrow's quiz! Here's a breakdown of what to study:

  • Use the word problems from yesterday (passed back today) to review word problems!
  • Complete the worksheet we started today in class and check your answers with the key I provided!
  • Study today's stamp: solving triangles!
  • Look at the example in our notes (from Tuesday or Wednesday) where we had to factor in the fact that the person was 6 feet tall and the angle of elevation was from their eyeline!
  • 3 things on tomorrow's quiz:
    • Word Problems (applying trig!)
    • Evaluating using your graphing calculator
    • Solving (2) triangles
One other thing...I made 2 mistakes on the answer key I provided in class!
  • For 1c I used tan inverse instead of cosine inverse! (Sorry, can't read...)
  • And for 6 I used 88 instead of 80 degrees! Sorry about that! Still can't read!

PreCalc HW: Please READ This!

Tonight, please complete the following ("word problems") in your textbook:

Page 276: 59, 61, 63

*YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO 57! 57 is a much more complicated problem than anything we've looked at in class. Feel free to take a look if you like, but don't get too stressed about this or make your brain explode or anything. Just make sure you get the 3 problems above completed.

Tomorrow we'll solve some triangles and get some more practice in so we can take a super fun quiz on Friday! See you there!

Trig Applicaions! Woohoo!

Tonight, please complete the 6 word problems (4 on the front, 2 on the back) provided in class today. If you lost your handout, you can find the questions below.

Remember, those "squares" should be degrees symbols. Technology, ya know...

  • First, draw a diagram (some kind of right triangle)
  • Then, determine which trig ratio we should used based on what information is given and what we are looking for
  • Finally, either...
    • Set up a trig ratio and cross multiply to solve for "x" (finding a side length)
    • Use the trig inverse function to solve for "theta" (finding an angle measure)

No Homework?!

Enjoy your night off!

Tomorrow in class we'll look at more applications of the trig ratios, and we'll continue to work with this idea for a few days. Then, we'll aim for a quiz on section 4.3 on Friday! Wooo!

See you all in the morning!

Friday, February 20, 2015

Weekend HW!

This weekend, please complete the trig ratio worksheet provided in class (or below)!

  • I have not yet taught you reference angles (the last 4 questions); use my examples to figure this out!
  • We have actually been using reference angles (in our head) each time we draw angles, we're just now going to put a name to them!

On Monday we'll get into the trip applications, finding measures of sides (distances) and angle measures. I'm pumped! See you there!

Have a great weekend!

Thursday HW

Tomorrow it's on to more trig--we'll start looking at some applications! Woooo!

Tonight, please complete the following in your textbook:

Page 374: 1, 3, 9

Enjoy your Thursday! See you all in the a.m.!

Back to the Grind!

Back to work...and now we have a long stretch of 5 day weeks (after this one) until our April vacation! Time to get back into that school groove/routine...

Tonight, please complete the following in your textbook:
Page 255: 7, 8, 12, 21, 22, 59, 61, 63

Tomorrow we'll answer any homework questions and then move onto our next section, 4.3! Yay SOHCAHTOA and stuff! See you there!

February Break = Trig Take Home Quiz!

I know, I know....you're welcome for the take home quiz :)

You all have been doing AWESOME with the new stuff we've been doing! Keep up the great work this weekend and get an A on your take home quiz! Don't forget!

If you lost yours (or need another copy), please feel free to email me and I'll send you an attachment. Don't hesitate to email me anytime with questions! (carofano.fm@easthartford.org).

Also, don't forget that you can use the links on the right to find some answers to questions you might have and to help you with your take home quiz!

When we get back we'll keep working with radians, and we'll start to refresh our memories on that SOHCAHTOA stuff from geometry! Until then, have an excellent break, and make sure you have your take home quiz in class next Wednesday! See you there!

Wednesday HW

Tonight, please complete the following in your textbook:

Page 255: 15, 17, 19, 21

These questions challenge you to find coterminal angles, complements, and supplements in radians. Try to find each answer without converting your angles to degrees, then converting your answers back to radians. Instead, try to work with radians throughout.

Tomorrow we will answer homework questions and finish our 4.1 notes so we can all ace our take home quiz over break!

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Tuesday HW

Good work today!

Tomorrow we'll work more with radians "as fractions," and then we'll start to talk about complements, supplements, and finding coterminal angles with radians.

Tonight, please label the unit circle (provided or below) with all of the correct angle measures in radians and degrees. (Check the inside cover of your book for help...or google a completed unit circle!)

Friday, February 6, 2015

Weekend HW!

More snow is on the way! Hopefully we're here Monday so we can learn some more stuff (and not be in school until July)!

This weekend, please complete the converting angles practice worksheet provided in class (or below). On Monday we'll keep practicing to get comfortable with radians, and start sketching angles in standard position in radians!

I'm definitely checking your homework!

Have a great weekend! See you in a few days!

Weekend HW:

Quiz Tomorrow!

Your only homework tonight is to be ready for tomorrow's quiz!
  • (Everything is in degrees; there are no radians on the quiz)
  • Sketch angles
  • Determine which quadrant the terminal side of an angle falls in
  • Find the complement and supplement of a given angle
  • Find a positive and negative coterminal angle
  • Label the missing sides of the special right triangles (with a hypotenuse of 1)
Use your homework from last night to study and start off with an "A" on your first trig quiz!

See you tomorrow!

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Wednesday HW

Tonight, please complete the following in your textbook:

Page 255: 23 - 43 (odd)

Tomorrow in class we'll wrap up our discussion of angles in degrees, and start getting into radians. We will have a quiz on Friday that covers all of the stuff on tonight's homework!

Enjoy your afternoon! See you manana!

Twosday Homework

More practice with angles...

Tonight, please complete the worksheet provided in class: your task is to name each angle measure in degrees.
  • Remember, each angle is in "standard position." That means each angle "starts," or has one of its sides, on the positive x-axis.
  • Each angle "starts" on the positive x-axis and rotates from there
  • Each angle measure is a multiple of 30, 60, or 90 degrees, EXCEPT:
    • #3, 7, 9, and 15 are multiples of 45 degrees
  • See the scanned handout below for a couple examples
